Geoinformation and Aerospace Mapping Methods
Form of study:
full-time
Duration of training:
2 years
Leading Research Scientist
of Department of Cartography
and Geoinformatics
PhD in Geography
Program description
The master's program is aimed at training highly qualified specialists who are proficient in modern computer technologies of spatial analysis and mapping, oriented in current areas of cartography and geoinformatics.
Particular attention within the master's program is paid to aerospace methods for obtaining and processing geographic information, three-dimensional methods of its presentation and analysis, network storage and distribution technologies, as well as generalization in the form of complex (atlas) cartographic works, including interactive ones. During the training process, master's students master the methods of spatial statistics and machine learning, which make it possible to automate the tasks of pattern recognition and the construction of geoinformation models of geographical phenomena. The formation of methodological and technical competencies is complemented by the study of modern and promising areas of mapping, including outer space objects (extraterrestrial) and processes of an ecological and geographical nature.
Benefits of the program
Balance of deep theoretical knowledge and good technical skills
The program is aimed at training using modern software, providing the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for mapping and modelling the environment, setting data analysis problems (including spatial ones) and thematic mapping tasks using programming tools.
Wide choice of research paper topics
Geoinformation and aerospace mapping technologies are in demand in all areas of Earth sciences: physical, social, economic geography, hydrology, meteorology, oceanology, ecology. Master's students can choose almost any field of application for their individual research work.
